I Just Wanted Your Love took about a minute to fully write. Recorded in the basement studio in Vancouver. It was the last song Alexz and Brendan wrote together and was specifically written for Instant Star
LA Made Me
Written in Toronto in the summer of 2007. Brendan and Alexz weren’t writting as much around these months, and they were still reeling from their record deal they had lost the Chrismas prior. Brendan was flying out to Toronto to produce “I Just Wanted Your Love” for “Is” and they got together at Brendan’s apartment. “LA” is what came out of it.
Weight
Recorded in 2008 and was one of the last songs written in the basement studio.
Now known as Mr. Jones. This song started out as a simple lyric idea that was floating around Brendan’s head for nearly 2 years until it was written at Oakwoods in February of 2005. Considered a sister song to “Easy ain’t sleazy”. It was a Ricky Lee Jones inspired film noir expression.
Easy Ain’t Sleazy
Another track written very fast. Alexz and Brendan love this simplicity of this song. It is not at all supposed to be taken seriously
Spin
Written in the summer of 2006 in a Toronto flat, and later finished in Vancouver in the basement studio. This song was inspired by Cindy Lauper and is truly one of Alexz and Brendan favorites
Saving The Train
Written in Vancouver, B.C, in the basement studio. The intro was added later when Alexz and Brendan were writting for Capitol at Oakwoods in L.A. Influences for this track come from the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack and Fleetwood Mac.
Lost & Found
Recorded at Oakwoods and was written extremely fast. This song had no real direction when Alexz and Brendan first started writting it. All they knew was they just wanted to be creative
